The decision you made to follow Christ has changed who you are. Your identity is in Christ. You are a new creation, old things have passed away. Your identity is now rooted in Christ. You should not be ashamed of who you are in Christ Jesus.
An Identity describes who or what a person or thing is. Your identity in Christ is defined by what he has done for us (His death and resurrection) and also the relationship He has given to us (Reconciling us back to God).
Understanding your identity in Christ will make you feel connected to Christ and give you a sense of belonging. You carry His image since the day you made the decision to follow Christ.
Most times, believers are not aware of the power of their identity in Christ, they tend to identify themselves with their problems or their friends. We should be able to reveal and hold unto our identity without fear, regardless of the location or situation in we find ourselves.
In 1 Peter 2:9 the scripture said “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (KJV)”
You should be proud of who you are in Christ Jesus, in return, Christ also will be proud of you in every area. When Paul had a change of identity, he was able to profess his new identity to the Gentiles without fear because his new identity in Christ gives him boldness and power. This applies to you also, with boldness, we should be able to profess this same identity that has been given to us.
When we confessed Christ as our Lord and Saviour and believed in His resurrection, we were made the following;
- We became a new creature. 2 Corinthians 5:17
- We were transformed into His image. 2 Corinthians 3:18
- Our spirit was made righteous. Ephesians 4:24
- We became a citizen of heaven. Philippians 3:20
- We became God’s masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10
- We quit the status of being slaves. John 15:15
- We were adopted into sonship. John 15:15
- We became heirs of Christ. Romans 8:17
These describe our new identity in Christ. Believe you are who God says you are and relish in the joy of your new identity. Also, you must have the confidence of this identity that you have received, so as to proclaim the excellencies of God.
Is your identity in Christ? If not you can make the decision to follow Christ now
